Base

12d Model is a modular yet integrated software program. 12d Model Base is required as the minimum and additional specialist modules are then added, (depending on your organisations requirements).

12d Model Base is currently available in various point sizes depending on the size of projects your organisation works on. They are:

  • 50K which has a 50,000 point limitation
  • 100K which handles 100,000 points
  • 250K which handles 250,000 points
  • 5M which supports 5,000,000 points
  • 250M which supports 250,000,000 points (64 bit Operating System required).

The 12d Model Base contains all the capabilities necessary to produce a digital terrain model (DTM or TIN), including fast triangulation, contouring and sectioning routines.

It is graphically interactive to give immediate feedback to the user. 12d’s triangulation engine is one of the fastest on the market, which builds the basis for extremely fast volume calculations.

The Base product was written from the ground up for civil engineering and surveying projects, so the work flow follows traditional engineering principles which makes it very easy to learn and use.

A comprehensive suite of coordinate geometry functions is included that are specifically tailored to suit designers, engineers and surveyors.

The Base module includes the ability to create cross-section templates and to apply these templates to the left and right of the design string.

This allows the user to design pads, simple roads and railways, canals and similar models. Note that the Detailed Alignment Design module is required for more complex work.

Recalculations Making Life Easy

When adjustments are made to the strings or templates involved in 12d Model functions, the 12d Model Recalculation facility automatically removes invalid information and replaces it with the updated geometry and volumes.

This is particularly useful when designing roads, pads, dams or storage ponds, or any situation where a number of trials are needed to determine the optimal design.

Plan, Section & 3D Perspective Views

Three types of views - plan, section and perspective - can be dynamically created by the user for examining, constructing and editing model data.

All views are linked so that the data can be viewed and manipulated using more than one view, and all views reflect changes to the design.

Libraries of line styles and symbols are available for users

These can be completely customised by the user. For text, True Type Fonts and decimal point justification are supported.

12d Model is available in both standalone and network versions.

This module gives the user access to many string types such as 2d, 3d, 4d, pipe, text, super and alignment to allow for accurate and efficient civil engineering and surveying modelling.

Alignment strings consist of horizontal and vertical geometry. The horizontal and vertical components are created and edited interactively using the IP method on plan and section views.

By purchasing the Detailed Alignment module, the Super Alignment also gives the user a significant increase in functionality by introducing such things as:

  • automatically generated geometry by the use of predefined speed parameter tables
  • “element method” in which the user constructs geometry using line, arc and parabola elements
  • “computator elements” where the user constructs geometry calculated from, or as a relationship to, other strings in the model.

Using The 3D Perspective View

12d Model has the ability to apply hidden line removal to strings on a triangulation and shading of a triangulated surface. A hidden line or shaded perspective provides a realistic three dimensional image which is often the easiest way to convey a design to people who find engineering plans and contours difficult to interpret.

OpenGL perspective views allow the user to apply textures and include 3D extrusions to give an even more realistic image of the model. Drive through views and movies are available in the base module, however for more advanced visualisation features (such as draped raster images, textures, trees and street furniture, the Visualisation module is recommended).

The 12d Model section view extends the concept of a section to include a corridor either side of the string being viewed.

The three dimensional nature of the data means that any strings that lie within the corridor can be displayed in the section view. Hence potential clashes between the design string and utilities such as telephone lines, electricity cables, gas lines and drainage and water pipes are easy to detect.

Plots and reports of any of the data in the views can be created at any time, even if they are currently in the process of being edited.

Plots can be output in a variety of formats including Windows printers, HPGL and Postscript, and, optionally, DWG/DXF and Microstation.

Powerful plot parameter files are provided for tailoring long and cross section plots and the availability of user defined title blocks, text fonts and line styles, means that final quality plots, requiring no CAD clean up, can be produced directly from 12d Model.

Efficiency & Sharing Projects

Efficiency comes not only from a robust and concise data base but also from being able to collaborate with other members of the project team.

To facilitate collaboration 12d Model allows the user to refer to other members' projects via a process called sharing. Even sharing in 12d Model is constructed with the goal of gaining maximum efficiency.

The data shared between team members is totally user definable so there is no unnecessary load on system resources and to minimize any confusion by the user having to sort through superseded or discarded options.

Sharing allows users from around the world to work on projects quickly and efficiently.
