Track

This module is aimed at providing tools to facilitate the design of railway alignments and station yard layouts using 12d Model.

Following on from Road Alignment success, 12d Track builds on 12ds’ design functionality by providing rail designers the opportunity to maximise the 12d Software Solution and cater for all railway design needs.

12d Track includes tools for placing turnouts in alignments and calculating cant for alignments.

While 12d Track is a new module within the 12d suite, 12d itself has been used in Australia for rail design in recent years. 

The extensive design capabilities within 12d Alignment, and Super Alignment have resulted in numerous designers utilising the product because of its already vast functionality.

The additional functionality in 12d Track includes:

• Point generation along a centerline of two surveyed rails for best fit calculations,
• Slew plots from centerline points to a design track alignment and export to  excel spreadsheet,
• String placement representing turnout geometry on an alignment using 12d functions,
• Macros to design turnout geometry data for 12d track and to transfer this data between projects,
• The ability to generate an excel spreadsheet of the track cant design from a 12d super alignment,
• Macro solutions giving an some indication where virtual cant may be required but not automatically calculate this,
• The ability to plot the track rail gauge lines,  mainly for visualization purposes since things like gauge widening will not be available.
• A macro to transfer the vertical alignment geometry across to a parallel track,
• Some visualisation functionality to plot turnout sleepers for presentations

Existing long section and cross section analysis, as well as any design volume features will be accessible through 12ds extensive operational range.

However, new features in 12d Track (including those above), will provide for:

• Rail analysis
• Turnouts, lead and heel lengths, turnout angles
• Centreline computation and analysis between rails
• Visualisation
• Reporting and Read/Write functionality
